Prof. Dr. Selim Toha illustrated the historical setting of Mujibnagar Government as well as the importance of the proclamation of independence. He described that the formation of a temporary government was scheduled in Chuadanga at the outset. But due to apparent threat erupted by the Pakistani army to carry out air strike (Jessore Cantonment is nearby from Chuadanga) led the government to be formed at Amrokannon (Mango Orchard) Baddonathtola of Meherpur district which is now called as Mujibnagar. The philosophy behind forming the government here is to evade from airstrikes, since the Pakistani army could not strike without violating the air of India. He enumerated that the formation of a temporary government was a great achievement for Bangladesh through which the national leaders could communicate with alien countries for the necessary assistance to be taken. But for this government, the Pakistani leader could term the freedom fighters as separatists.
Prof. Dr. Abdur Razzaque told that proclamation of independence was the widest and sensible amplitude for our national hopes and aspirations. Formation of the temporary government was not a trivial but a gigantic task indeed. He insisted to adopt the spirit of proclamation of independence in the academic arena, especially in the university level, the highest echelon of academic knowledge. Dr. Parvez Ahmed described the multifaceted importance of the proclamation of independence. ‘It was a documentation of the founding faith, hopes and aspirations of a nation’, he told. Through this document the will of Bangladeshi nation was articulated. He also praised the legislature for incorporating the invaluable document to our Constitution, the paramount law of Bangladesh.
