We are pleased to share with you all that the Department of English and the Centre for Endangered Languages at the Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University (SKBU), West Bengal, India, in collaboration with the Green University Language Center, Green University of Bangladesh, has organized a three day long virtual international seminar series themed “South Asian Literature: Emerging Trends and Global Perspectives” on 03-05 June 2021. It is noteworthy here that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed earlier this year between the Green University Language Center, Green University of Bangladesh, Bangladesh, and Centre for Endangered Languages, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, India, on 19 January 2021.

The Inaugural Ceremony of the seminar series took place on 03 June 2021 via Google Meet. Our Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Green University of Bangladesh, graced the Inaugural Ceremony and delivered his address as the Chief Guest. In the ceremony, the Honourable Vice Chancellor of Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, Prof. Dr. Dipak Kumar Kar delivered the Inaugural Address, and the Honourable Vice Chancellor of Bankura University, Prof. Deb Narayan Bandyopadhyay, delivered the Keynote Address. Prof. Dr. Apurba Saha, Head of the Department of English, SKBU, warmly welcomed the esteemed guests of the event through his Welcome Address. The Dean of Arts, Prof. Narugopal Dey, the Director of Indigenous Studies, Prof. Sonali Mukherjee, and the Convener of the Conference, Dr. Jati Sankar Mondal, also enriched the session with their speeches.

At the end of the Inaugural Ceremony, the first Plenary Session of the day took place. Ms. Tanzia Mobarak, Lecturer at the Department of English, delivered a Plenary Lecture on “Bangladeshi Writings in English: Emergence and Prospects” as a representative from Green University of Bangladesh. On the next day, 04 June 2021, a technical session for students was also arranged where our student at the Department of English, Ms. Kashfia Taleb, delivered a short presentation on Kamala Das’s poetry. Green University of Bangladesh was highly praised in both of these sessions.

Scholars from Australia, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and other countries joined and presented in different sessions of the seminar series. The seminar series ended on 05 June 2021 with a grand success.
